Found a recipe on a website, or in Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube? Here's every way to get it into your book — pick whatever fits the device you're on.
💻 Desktop — one-click bookmarklet
A little button you drag to your bookmarks bar. On any recipe page, click it — weReci reads the recipe straight from the page you're viewing (so it works even on sites that block servers) and saves it.
1Show your bookmarks bar: ⌘⇧B (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+B (Windows / Linux).
2Drag the button below onto that bar.
3On any recipe page, click Save to weReci — a confirmation pops up and you can jump straight to it in weReci.
The bookmarklet is personal to your book, so it carries a private access token.
The weReci app puts weReci in the share sheet of every app on your iPhone or iPad. Nothing to build and no script to paste — and on recipe websites it reads the page you're looking at, so it works even on sites that block our server (NYT Cooking, food52, and friends).
1Install weReci from the App Store, open it, and sign in once.
2In Safari, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Photos, or Files, tap Share → weReci. The first time, scroll to the end of the row of apps, tap More, and add weReci.
3A confirmation appears as soon as it's saved — you never leave the app you're in.
It takes recipe pages, links to posts and videos, copied recipe text, up to 8 photos or screenshots, and PDFs.
Already copied a link? Just open weReci — the app notices there's a link on your clipboard and asks if you want to save it. It only reads the link once you tap Save.
The app also adds a Save a recipe to weReci action to Shortcuts and Siri — hand it a link and it saves in the background.
Without the app (iOS 16 or earlier) — build a Shortcut
For recipe websites — a bot-proof Shortcut
iOS doesn't let websites join the share sheet, but a one-time Apple Shortcut runs the same in-page scrape the desktop bookmarklet does — which means it works even on sites that block our server (NYT Cooking, food52, and friends).
The Shortcut script is personal to your book, so it carries a private access token.
For Instagram, TikTok & YouTube — the universal Shortcut
The Shortcut above only runs on Safari web pages. To save a video straight from the Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube app, make a second simple Shortcut that hands the link to weReci:
1New Shortcut → open its settings (ⓘ) → turn on Show in Share Sheet, accepted types URLs and Text.
2Add one action, Open URLs, set to:https://wereci.xyz/add?url=[Shortcut Input](type the address, then insert the Shortcut Input variable right after url=)
3Name it "Send to weReci" and tap Done. Now share any post or video to it — videos open the review flow, recipe pages import directly.
🤖 Android — install once, share forever
Android lets weReci join the share sheet natively — no Shortcut needed. Install it as an app, and weReci appears in the share sheet of every app. Share any recipe page or video to it in one tap.
Open your browser menu and look for “Install app” or “Add to Home Screen”. Once installed, the share sheet on your phone will offer weReci as a destination for any recipe URL.
✂️ Anywhere — paste a link
No setup at all: copy any recipe, YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok link, open weReci, tap +, and paste. Photos and screenshots work the same way.
